FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING
WHAT IS FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH
In health and safety all precautions are put in place to keep everyone physically safe, but there is no real parameters to keep people psychologically safe, which is what this training aims to provide. First Aid for Mental Health is a system of how to manage and support mental health issues and conditions in the workplace.
Mental Health First Aid training will equip learners with knowledge and awareness on a range of mental health illnesses enabling the recognition of common signs and symptoms either during a mental health crisis or during the development of a mental health illness. This training course is not intended to replace the input of a medically trained professional, but to highlight awareness of mental health issues and conditions within the workplace. Following attendance, employees will be able to identify the signs of mental health issues and implement appropriate and timely interventions to support colleagues experiencing distress. 1 in 4 adults will experience a mental health problem at some point in their life.
10% of children will suffer with a mental health issue.
10% of people will experience some form of depression.
Mental Health carries an economic and social cost of € 8.2 billion per annum in Ireland (Economic And Social Research Institute)
Anxiety and Stress are found to be the second biggest cause of work related illness in Ireland.
